Tollmaster, what did you think about it?
I actually really enjoyed it, coming in with no expectations (and also not being well versed enough in Macross legacy, though my roommate explained to me the pineapple cake). Oh, how I wish that Klan Klan had more screentime.

Michaaaeee~l
I installed Windows 7 when it went live, so I had to futz with my tablet settings, thus this practice sketch. I originally tried to draw Ranka and Sheryl, but I need a little more practice with their hair…
By the way, anyone know how to turn off the windows pen tablet clicking animation and notation? It’s incredibly annoying and distracting because it doesn’t play nice with openCanvas 3. Nevermind (again), thanks!
Maybe I’ll draw some Bakemonogatari next…after I get over midterms and papers.

More KlanKlan instead :3
I thought Klan Klan & Michael were a thouuusand times more interesting than the main love triangle.
I watched Macross Frontier when it was airing, so I had to wait a week for every episode; and every week in which my patience was paid off with another stretch of Ranka and Sheryl b’awwing like they have no one to talk to or Alto conveying the outward emotions of a piece of cardboard, all of which amounting to a “dramatic” two-steps-backwards episode, was pretty frustrating. From what I’m hearing, people who watched it all in a few days had fewer complaints.
The whole time I was wishing the show were about Klan Klan & Michael. :<
OH MAN I LOVE BAKEMONOGATARI
if you do this on photoshop whar are you file and brush sesttings?
I just cant seem to get that nice quality
thanks alot
Scypher: I agree. When he bit the dust I nearly shat a 1:1 scale replica of the Great Wall of China. Whoever thought THAT was a good idea deserves a pineapple salad.
Nope, the lines are done openCanvas 3 with a light gauss blur filter from Photoshop.
I know oC3 is like really old and busted, but the only reason I still use it is because it makes really good strokes without any effort (though it lacks like shape and texture options). For sketches, I use the pen brush at around 20% opacity, only size is pressure adjusted.
Yeah, Michaaaaaaeeeeeeeeeeeeeeel.
I wish Manga Studio or Illuststudio or whatever those Japanawhateverdoodz used was available in English.
WHO THE FUCK IS TOLLMASTER
Will you guys make more podcast? They where awesome.
Learn Japanese you lazy bastard.
I’m conflicted with Macross Frontier. It’s definitely good, and I was more than happy to watch it, but as someone who first got into anime with the Macross season of Robotech, I felt like they had cut off, or neglected, the main features that made the original Macross so great.
The mecha in Macross Frontier were technically excellent, but I already knew how they worked, what their gimmicks were, and Macross F did nothing to reinvent the wheel. As a mecha fan, I kind of demand…well, something other than slightly flashier and prettier mecha. I want to be able to look at a robot and think about what the fictional engineers were thinking, and I couldn’t do that with Macross F.
The characters were actually the best part of the show, and if you had told me I would eventually grow to care about two modern J-pop singers, I would have laughed the idea off, but I’ll admit to getting attached to Ranka and Sheryl by the end. While the mecha were vanilla and unexciting for me as a mecha fan, ironically the part that I usually care less about became the main reason I kept watching the show.
But again as a Macross fan, the big difference between the relationships in the original Macross, and the ones in Macross Frontier, was that there was a termination point. Lots of stuff happened, that put the characters through hell and back, and in the middle of it all the main character has to eventually figure out which one of two girls he’s going to end up with. Alto doesn’t do that; by the end, which girl he’s really matched to well is still up in the air, to appease the fanboys. It feels like Alto is a character to whom events happen to, who never makes a choice for himself–because if he did, that would ruin the harem.
Klan Klan and Space Playboy were a lot more in line with what I’d say were closer to the “real” spirit of Macross–they had a relationship, but with a lot of problems that they needed to work out first, rather than the whole thing just being a smooth progression. But we don’t get to see too much of that, and for obvious reasons, we’ll never get a resolution out of it.
So, yes: we needed more Klan Klan.
TOLLMASTER: Y’know what we REALLY needed more of? Michael not fucking dying. If Macross F ever makes into SRW, they better make it possible to save his ass or the fans will probably tear down Banpresto’s offices in a berserker rage.
I’m sure saving Michael is going to be the first thing they think of when they put in Macross F into SRW. It’s practically expected nowadays, with Doomed Gundam Heroines clinging to unlife, piloting funnel-shooting mechas being the rule ever since the series’ conception. AND he’ll get a Team Attack with both Alto and Shotaboy, but also with Klan Klan. Tsundere-Hearts will be involved (possibly with both attacks).
The real reason he had to die, of course, was because consummation of THAT marriage was going to be, depending on just how rotten an otaku you are, either the stuff of nightmares or the stuff of legends. I’ll admit that was I was a silent supporter of the “giant robot x giantess” idea. Because the other way around? Uh. No. NO.
Is Bakemonogatari another name for… Bakuman?! You should definately peruse it and then be inspired to UPDATE!
moar
TOLLMASTER: Did you even LOOK at the fanart? Who says Michael would even need a giant robot? Granted, it’d be a hell of a lot more dangerous, but it’s better than being arrested for statutory rape.
I saw the fanart. It’s basically what H. R. Giger was trying to come up with all these years.
TOLLMASTER: Uh… you must’ve been tooling around seedier places than I have, ‘cuz I don’t recall seeing anything quite THAT bad.
