Battle Routine, Set — Execute!

Blues from Rockman Battle Network
When Megaman Battle Network first came out, I really enjoyed the environment and scenario the game setup: it being an alternate universe from the classic Megaman series, a world where society decided to follow Dr. Light’s path of AI and the internet as opposed to Dr. Wily’s proposition of super fighting robots and general shit-havoc. All the characters were really charming and the story felt just pleasant enough that it seemed fun to play even if they were to turn it into a serial series with a new sequel every year.

I kind of ate those words when the next five billion sequels came out.

Anyway, I still really liked how the game felt like I was exploring a real living world with its isometric niceness, and I particularly enjoyed the new Protoman/Zero fusion character who wordlessly followed the orders of his master, a 12 year old netbattling hotshot asshole. It’s too bad Capcom never got smart enough to realize they could’ve had a real winner on their hand if they allowed players to cuxtomize their own Net Navi instead of always making the player use Megaman. I mean, come on - user customization is THE way to hook players now! Stop living in your Old Osaka Yakuza ways, Capcom. :/

Anyway, for people too cheap or lazy to get into the franchise, here’s a thread that plays through all the games, come hell or highwater:

I’d still recommend people to play the first game even if the rest of the series puts you off. It’s a good game!

I remember being quite excited for this when it was announced.
One thing that really irked me about the games was that how the enviroments got pretty repetitive and it was pretty easy to get lost. A map would have been nice. I constantly forgot how to get from one place to another.
I enjoyed the first one; I bought it right before leaving on a trip to San Jose, so I dumped a lot of time into it. I played MMBN2 to death; I almost took folder building really seriously on the GameFAQs board (which was pretty strangely civil and organized). Too bad most of the flexibility was ruined in the later games.

The first one was fun, but it got really repetitive near the end or after you beat it, I’m not sure. It felt like that Undernet or whatever area never ended. And it all looked the same. aaaaa

The newer ones were fun too, but I’ve stopped playing as they all started to feel the same after like the fourth release.

I only played until the third one. By then I was tired of having the same old gameplay methods being reshuffled and relabeled as “NEW GROOVES” or styles or whatever. I wouldn’t have minded if every game just kept the same gameplay and only added new chips ala Pokemon while continuing the storyline, but instead they made everything more and more complicated instead.

I just want to play through an entertaining storyline!
